She has been honoured with the Commander Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland and the Wilberforce Award for her humanitarian work. In 2005 she was honoured by the All India Christian Council with the International Mother Teresa Award. She has been appointed as Special Representative for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Freedom of Religion Panel and in recent months has received both the Mkhitar Gosh Medal conferred on her by the President of the Republic of Armenia in recognition of her services to their land and people, and a special anniversary medal presented by Lech Walesa at the 25 th anniversary of the Polish Solidarity movement. An Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Baroness Cox is author of numerous publications, the founding Chancellor of Bournemouth University (1991–2001) and a recipient of numerous honorary awards from British and overseas universities. Baroness Caroline Cox said of her delight at becoming Liverpool Hope University ’s first Chancellor: “I am honoured to accept the post of Chancellor for this exciting new ecumenical University. As I spend much of my time working for people suffering from oppression and persecution in many parts of the world, including many Christians suffering persecution, I am deeply committed to the concepts of working for forgotten peoples in forgotten lands. In these situations difference of faith and denomination disappear, as people struggle valiantly to survive. I often return humbled and inspired by the courage, dignity and generosity of people who are in some of the darkest parts of the world. I am very enthusiastic about the vision and the mission of Liverpool Hope University and greatly look forward to becoming involved with this new University, which to me encompasses so many of the beliefs and aspirations for which I work for a large amount of my time”. |
