Liverpool Hope and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (RLPO) have a combined history of more than 300 years. Their relationship has grown over many years culminating in today's Inauguration of Special Relationship which formally acknowledges a unique cultural collaboration which will deliver significant benefits to the City’s musical and educational life.

This partnership will see colleagues from Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra working alongside academics in the University’s Music Department, delivering expert tuition in music, recording and arts, and venue management.

Orchestra members will become Visiting Fellows at the University, while Liverpool Hope is to undertake continuing investment in the Orchestra becoming one of its major sponsors.

Liverpool Hope University’s Vice-Chancellor and Rector, Professor Gerald Pillay said the Special Relationship was the next natural step in a rich friendship developed over many years. He added: “Both the Orchestra and University are committed to ensuring Liverpool is a European city of vibrant culture in every sense, and to take further that message far and wide. Both seek high quality and are committed to creating opportunities for all to enjoy the creative and performing arts.”

Another key aspect of the Special Relationship involve the University offering a number of RLPO scholarships to Music students, presenting opportunities for the Orchestra’s community education unit to work alongside Hope’s Education Deanery, which has partnership arrangements with more than 500 schools.

Liverpool Hope wants to support the engagement of students and young people in a whole range of activities in the life and work of the RLPO. Both institutions believe that such investment is vital, as we look forward to 2008 and beyond, and all the unique opportunities that it will present to develop a valuable and accessible musical heritage for future generations.
