How do I prove my prior learning?

Documentation

For APCL (non-Hope credits) and APEL you will need to complete the Application Form (APL1) and submit this together with appropriate and complete evidence for the learning. You will also be asked to provide the contact details of a referee from your current or previous FE or HE institution.

Your prior learning may have taken the following forms:

  • certificated learning from other United Kingdom educational institutions
  • certificated learning from abroad
  • certificated work-based learning
  • experiential learning acquired in paid work
  • experiential learning acquired in unpaid or voluntary work
  • experiential learning acquired from leisure activities
  • un-certificated learning from self-directed study

In the case of certificated learning, you will need to submit any certificates and transcripts that will allow the University to assess the currency, volume, level and fit of the credits you wish to import.

In the case of experiential learning, you will need to submit a portfolio of evidence that will allow the University to assess the currency, volume, level and fit of the learning you wish to gain credit for.

In both cases, the Faculty-based Subject Assessor will be able to advise you on the nature of the evidence required. Please contact the relevant Faculty Office for contact details.

For an Advanced Standing request (using Hope credits) you will need to complete the Application Form (ADS1). You do not need to submit certificates or transcripts from a previous registration at Hope. Your records will be checked to verify your academic achievement and to ensure you are in good academic and financial standing with the University.
