Tax Efficient Ways of Giving

If you are a UK Tax payer and meet the requirements set out below, Liverpool Hope University will be able to reclaim the basic rate of tax paid on your gift, increasing its value by almost one third at no extra cost to you. If you wish to make your gift tax effective in this way, please ensure you sign and date the declaration on your donation form. The Gift Aid declaration is as follows:

I confirm I have paid or will pay an amount of income tax and/or capital gains tax for each year (6th April-5th April) that is at least equal to the amount of tax that all charities or Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) that I donate to will reclaim on my gifts for that tax year. I understand that other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify. I understand the charity will reclaim 28p of tax on every £1 that I gave up to 5 April 2008 and will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 on or after 6th April 2008.

The difference Gift Aid will make to your donation:

Giving through your tax return

If you complete a self-assessment tax return you can donate all or a percentage of a tax repayment owed to you to Hope, providing you have paid enough you can ask that HMRC automatically Gift Aid to your self-assessment donation, thus ensuring that your gift goes further to supporting Hope.

Self-Assessment Giving

It offers an easy way to donate your tax refund to Liverpool Hope University. The University receives your donation (plus any Gift Aid) directly into its bank accounts without having to make the claim to HMRC.

If you file your tax return online or through the post you can select the University to receive either all or part of your tax repayment by completing the Giving your tax repayment to Charity form, which will have been sent to you in your tax return pack.

When completing your form please state Liverpool Hope University’s Charity Code of SA100Charity

Once HMRC have calculated your tax repayment, they will send you a calculation showing how much your repayment is and when it was sent to the University.

US Tax Payers

Did you know that if you’re a US tax payer you can make a tax-efficient gift to Liverpool Hope University?

This is because the University has a working arrangement with British Schools and Universities Foundation (BSUF), a US tax exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and a Public Charity.

Gifts to BSUF are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.  The board of BSUF has reviewed our operations and activities and has determined that we meet the Internal Revenue Service criteria to receive grants from a Public Charity.

If you’d like to support Liverpool Hope University financially please complete the form below and send it with your check made payable to British Schools and Universities Foundation or provide credit card information. BSUF will not retain any percentage of what you give for its administrative costs and for funding its other programs.

BSUF will send you the receipt you require for your tax return.

For further information please see www.bsuf.org or contact development@hope.ac.uk
