Faculty of Arts and Humanities

Overview

‌Welcome from the Dean

0197 Prof Nicholas ReesIt is my pleasure to welcome you to the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Liverpool Hope University.

Here, we embrace a wide range of disciplines in the Humanities and the Creative Arts.

At Liverpool Hope, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities includes departments in the Creative Arts and the Humanities.  Our departments are located across two campuses. The 2011 National Student Survey ranked the Departments of Theology, Philosophy and Religious Studies and Fine and Applied Arts as top in the country for student satisfaction.

Students have the opportunity to study with outstanding researchers, some of whom are attached to our major research centres: the Archbishop Desmond Tutu Centre for War and Peace Studies and the Andrew F. Walls Centre for the Study of African and Asian Christianity, as well as a range of international visiting professors and artists.

The Faculty has an excellent reputation for research undertaken by its staff. Staff are engaged in research in a wide variety of areas relating to the structure and functioning of the Creative Arts and Humanities

Our vibrant and growing Creative Campus, close to the city centre with easy access to the city of Liverpool’s exciting cultural scene, hosts the annual Cornerstone Arts Festival and provides opportunities for students to showcase their work at the annual Summer Show, whilst also drawing on our links with cultural bodies such as Tate Liverpool and National Museums Liverpool.

These scholarships come with a variety of application processes and candidates are advised to head to our Fees and Funding webpage for further information.

Postgraduate (Taught) scholarships

The Faculty offers two main types of scholarships at postgraduate level. These are: 'Graduate' (£1000) towards the cost of postgraduate study for Liverpool Hope alumni achieving a First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) degree. There is as the 'Graduate 500', available for students of other institutions, who have achieved a First Class or Second Class (Upper Division) degree. The scholarships are for the full fees as well as a bursary of £13,500 per year. Doctoral students will be considered for the scholarships in the key research areas of the University such as education, core humanities subjects, education, business and computing, amongst other. The funding available is equivalent to that offered by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Economic and Social Research Council

The scholarships are for the very best students and the University would expect that they would have gained a distinction in their Masters studies.

Successful students would begin their studies at Liverpool Hope from the beginning of September 2012.

For further information, including the application pack, please see our Postgraduate Research page.

In addition, the Faculty also offers a Doctoral Studies Studentship in Music. The successful applicant receives a PhD payment as well as living and travel expenses for the duration of the award. Further details can be found on the Department of Music page.
