Black and Minority Ethnic RecruitmentAt the Faculty of Education we promote teacher training courses to individuals from the Black and Minority Ethnic community. We support potential applicants from a BME background with course selection, guidance and application. Liverpool Hope University offers a number of routes actively promoting both undergraduate and postgraduate into teaching. We hold teaching advice events in the Black and Minority Ethnic community in order to raise the profile of opportunities within teacher training and support that is available for students.

Liverpool Hope University understands the importance of a diverse teaching force that is reflective of Liverpool's communities. As a university we recognise the importance of education and the contribution role models make. It is why we support the Black and Minority Ethnic Communities. We work with schools to encourage more pupils to embark on a career in teaching especially through programmes like our Somali/BME TASTE programme. As a member of the Merseyside Black and Minority Ethnic Steering Group a partnership that brings together The University of Chester, Edge Hill University, Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool Hope University, The Merseyside and Cheshire GTP Consortium and representatives of Merseyside community groups with school-based input from Archbishop Blanch CoE High School, to encourage BME recruitment. We also support community organisations on a range of programmes such as Merseyside Black History Month.

Minimum qualifications are required to be enrolled on teacher training programmes. In order to become a Primary teacher you will need to have GCSE Maths, Science and English at Grade C or above or an equivalent qualification. For Secondary teacher training you will need to have GCSE Maths and English Grade C or above or an equivalent qualification. At Liverpool Hope University we offer GCSE Equivalence Tests in English and Maths, which the University will accept in place of formal GCSE qualifications, and a taught programme, ‘Alternative Maths for Intending Teachers’ (AMFIT) with assessment to provide students with a maths equivalency qualification.
