Welcome to the research pages for Liverpool Hope University Business School. Liverpool Hope Business Department has a multi-disciplinarily research capability that generates knowledge about leadership, management and organization change and social and economic development. Our scholars are drawn from traditional social science and science backgrounds including  politics, sociology, economics and international law, mathematics, education and development studies.  Liverpool Hope aims to disseminate original research and knowledge applicable to the significant challenges of economic, social, organization and religious transformations facing business leaders, government and international agencies, charitable organizations and NGO’s in the 21st century. Underlying our approach is a commitment to a liberal arts curriculum, and in valuing the integration of teaching and research as part of scholarly endeavor. To that end our research reflects broader concerns about overall human well being in societies and to develop critical understandings of organization and management and international development processes. Through our research we make a significant contribution to the reputation of Hope as one of the leading ecumenical universities in Europe.

Hopes intellectual capability is based on three research groups in the UK focused on:

  • Economic and Social Development
  • Leadership, Learning and Organization Effectiveness
  • International Business and Management
  • The work of the 3 centers is also represented in a collaborative international research joint venture with the Bangalore Institute of Business in India, one of the very first centers of its kind in the UK:

Substantive research for each theme is carried out by a number of research groups in the school as well as with collaboration with other Hope academic staff in the Education and Social Science Deaneries. Each research grouping displays intellectual leadership that involves collaborations between junior and senior academic staff and is demonstrated by participation in international management conferences and active engagement with the international scholarly community. Several of our staff are involved in the secretariat and organizing committees of leading international business and management conferences inter alia: BAM  and EURAM and UK professional university management associations including ABS.

We have international research and teaching partnerships with other universities throughout the world including inter alia: Monash University, Australia; Giron University; Helsinki School of Economics, Finland; University of Bucharest, Berlin School of Economics, Germany; and the University of Lyon, France. Through these networks we are able to make significant efforts to understand business, management and organization relationships in diverse socio-cultural, political and economic contexts.

Research generated informs teaching and learning, and scholars engage with practice through policy bodies such as the EU, the Northern Leadership Academy and the National College for School Leadership.

Members of the Business Deanery are on Editorial Boards of several international journals including:

    • Equal Opportunities International
    • Gender in Management-An International Journal (formerly Women in Management Review)
    • Human Resource Development International
    • International Journal for Islamic Finance and Management
    • International Journal of Emerging Markets

Whether you are a member of an international research community or a potential research student you will find that the Liverpool Hope Business School provides a supportive environment for business and management learning, scholarship and research. We welcome and encourage applications from prospective research students whose interests are linked to the key themes of our research groups.
