Professor Ron Geaves,
Director

The Centre for Transcultural Studies was set up in January 2007 to promote the study of interactions and exchanges between cultures. Members of this Research Centre come from a number of disciplines and have links across the world.

Aims of the Centre

  1. Through research and dissemination, to advance understanding of the ways in which cultures of diverse geographical, national, religious and political origins interact with one another and create new contemporary cultural formations against a background of unprecedented global exchange.
  2. Through research and dissemination, to advance understanding of the ways in which concepts of nationality, race and identity and theoretical concepts such as postcolonialism, multi-culturalism and eurocentrism are challenged by new global cultural conditions.
  3. To foster co-operation and mutual understanding at local, national and international levels between communities which share in such a meeting and interaction of cultures.
  4. To contribute to the contemporary debate on citizenship within the United Kingdom and Liverpool in particular.
