What is the Chaplaincy Base?

The Chaplaincy Base is at the heart of the Hope Park campus, on the ground floor of the Warrington building. Here you'll find the Chaplains' work station and a large common room which is open to all students and staff to use. It's a relaxed place, with cheap tea and coffee making facilities, newspapers and magazines.

Lots of people call in during the week to have a drink with friends, study and read. Sometimes it's a quiet refuge, sometimes the talking and laughter is deafening! And the Chaplains are always happy to share (yet another) cup of tea ...

The Chapels

HOPE CHAPEL

The Pathway through the Park unites Hope Park by linking the University's two Chapels as a deliberate symbol of the Anglican and Catholic traditions journeying together towards unity. The Chapels are now used ecumenically.

WindowHope Chapel, at the main entrance of the Frances Mary Lescher Building , is a contemporary building full of light and colour coming from a series of abstract stained-glass windows symbolising Faith, Charity, and the aspiration of Hope (shown right).

Damaged by a fire some years ago, the chapel has been fully refurbished and is truly a beautiful space. The chapel also has a smaller side-chapel and three meeting rooms.

The chapel provides an oasis of peace in the midst of  a very busy campus and all are invited to visit the chapel. It will be open during the day for staff and students who wish to spend some time in reflection and prayer.

Trinity Chapel

visitationTrinity Chapel is found on the first floor of the Hilda Constance Allen Building and is built in a 20th century interpretation of the traditional "Gothic" style. It is a quiet, serene space, which contains a striking portrayal (by the artist Ghislaine Howard) of Mary's visit to Elizabeth , an image of friendship and tenderness. It now houses the University Senate room.

Trinity Chapel is open for prayer throughout the day when the Senate Room is not in use. Candles may be lit, and prayer requests recorded. It is also possible to make prayer requests on the prayer table just otside the refectory in the Gateway Building.
