Cognitive Psychology Research Group

Welcome to the site of the Cognitive Psychology research group. Please use the menu links on the right to find out more about the members of the group, the research we do and our labs.

Members of the Cognitive Psychology research group investigate the role of cognitive processes in human behaviour.

Research in the field of Cognitive Psychology is based on an experimental approach. Our studies generally use behavioural experiments which record overt behaviour (e.g. participants' judgements, accuracy rate, reaction times, eye movements). In addition, brain electrical responses may also be recorded on the scalp using our EEG equipment while a participant performs a perceptual, cognitive, or motor task.

Current research topics include:

  • Visual attention, visual short-term memory and feature binding
  • Colour perception, perception of emotional facial expression
  • Implicit and explicit sequence learning, motor control and perception-action interaction
  • Multisensory processing
  • The function of working memory in the development of reading and writing
  • Social cognition in clinical samples
