Curwen_Studios_053.jpgRolf Harris’s recent appearance at the Cornerstone Gallery when he officially opened the ‘Curwen at Studio at 50’ Exhibition was a great success and a very entertaining event.

Its not often an art exhibition is opened by the audience joining in a sing-along with a celebrity but Rolf had everyone in good voice and he was joined by his long term friend and photographer Mike McCartney of the Scaffold. Rolf was also joined on the night by Alan Powers, author of Art and Print: The Curwen Story  published by Tate publishing which you can also buy at the gallery.

A week later Mike McCartney returned to the Cornerstone to give a guest talk about his work and his involvement with the Curwen Studio. This was followed by a print workshop led by Tom Martin, master printer with the Curwen Studio. Mike McCartney’s latest Book ‘MML: Mike McCartneys Liverpool Life’ is also available to buy from the Gallery.

The Cornerstone Gallery recently featured in a French Arts and Culture magazine. The article paised the space and the quality of the shows. Click here to view article. English Translation of the article:

THE CORNESTONE GALLERY HOPE UNIVERSITY
"This dynamic gallery is settled in the Hope University Campus, in the Everton area, ten minutes walk from the Walker Art Gallery. With its vast central stairs, this place of exchange and meeting for students is lively and user-friendly. It works (on its own) under the direction of its friendly manager Jason Jones. At the beginning of the year, Cornertone Gallery welcomed Overview 07, an exhibition conceived by Arthur Roberts (Loop Gallery), which gathered the works of about thirty avant-garde artists from Merseyside area, with works by the painter and plastician Peter Dover.
