Background:

David Cumberland Cumberland is a senior manager with responsibility in the University for mission related recruitment and external liaison. David has over twenty years experience working in both Primary and Secondary school classrooms as a teacher and local authority advisor.

Having started his career in the Primary sector he moved to teaching in Secondary schools as a History specialist, spending a number of years as a Head of Department and more recently as a Head of a large sixth form.

David has worked extensively with schools, local authorities and goverment agencies in developing teacher and initial teacher expertise and in the development of teacher training and teacher education.He has considerable expertise and experience in school development, school governance and school improvement.

David has taught at Liverpool Hope for the last five years leading the Secondary PGCE programme and most recently as Vice Dean with responsibility for Teacher Education programmes although he still maintains his links with his first academic passion by teaching on the history curriculum QTS programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

At a research level David's interests lie in Post 16 education and development and the link to lower school achievement.
