Welcome to the pages of Liverpool Hope University’s Centre for Widening Participation and Outreach

bill.jpgWe aim to bring higher education within the reach of people who might not traditionally have considered a university or whose social or economic circumstances might prevent them from realising their full potential.

There are many people who would benefit from the opportunities that going to university brings. Not only can it broaden your mind and introduce you to interesting people, it also improves your career prospects and earning power. Research now tells us that a university career can also make you happier and give you a longer life!

Many school students don’t consider going on to higher education because they don’t know any family or friends who have been there. The job of the CWPO is to encourage people to think about the benefits of university and support them should they decide to go.

Hope works in partnership with the local education authorities, other universities, colleges and schools across Merseyside and beyond, to enable as many young people as possible to take advantage of higher education as part of their life-long learning.

Raising Awareness, Aspirations, Achievement and Acknowledgement

glynismcdonough.jpgThroughout its 160 year history, Liverpool Hope has been committed to widening participation. We aim to increase the likelihood of people from under-represented groups, including those from particular ethnic groups and those with special needs, benefiting from higher education.

In recent years, Hope has worked with neighbouring universities and colleges as part of the AimHigher Greater Merseyside partnership. We encourage young people to consider higher education as a sensible option after school, college and training. We are committed to ensuring that every student is able to achieve their full potential by providing education and support of the highest quality. We work not only with young people but also their parents, guardians, Connexions Service personal advisors and teachers

Liverpool Hope's Centre for Widening Participation and Outreach aims to study, evaluate and research widening participation, to encourage the institution to reflect upon our considerable practical experience and to ensure that good practice is disseminated and enhanced.
