The Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) Survey |
The newly qualified teacher (NQT) survey is a voluntary exercise carried out in February each year to collect and analyse NQTs' perceptions of their initial teacher training (ITT). It is sent out to all new teachers registered with the General Teaching Council for England (GTC). The survey is used to gauge NQTs' views on the quality of their initial teacher training ITT and how well it prepared them for their first year in teaching.
At Liverpool Hope, we fully support the importance of the NQT survey and encourage all our graduates to engage with it. To aid the memory, we have produced a prompt sheet which NQTs might find useful to consider when filling out the survey. The prompt sheet can be downloaded here:

A new book from the Education Faculty, Onwards and Upwards: Supporting the Transition to Key Stage One, written by Kathleen Orlandi has just been published by Routledge/David Fulton.
How can teachers ensure that the transition from the Early Years Foundation Stage to Key Stage One is a positive experience for children? What are the issues for children, parents and teachers and how should teachers respond to these? This book introduces the concept of transition and identifies the key problem areas for children and adults focusing on the differences in philosophy and practice between the EYFS and Key Stage One, whilst also giving emphasis to the opportunities that are provided by the transition process. It stresses the need for a balanced approach and the importance of sustained shared thinking from the EYFS through Key Stage One and provides practical strategies for achieving this.
