This 1994, Ken Loach docu-drama tells the story of a British, working class woman's fight with Social Services over the care of her children. Maggie has a history of abusive relationships. Having four children, Maggie’s children come to the attention of Social Services when they are injured in a fire, which leads to Maggie’s children being removed from her care.
Maggie meets Jorge, a Paraguayan expatriate which changes her life for the better. Nevertheless, Maggie and Jorge together, and separately, have a fight on their hands with Social Services, Immigration, and other government bureaucrats in a desperate battle to bring their family back together.
