BESA. Muslims in Albania that helped Jews during the Shoah
Thursday, 28 February 2019
, 4pm
FML014 Lecture Theatre
Just before the outbreak of the Second World War, several Jews found refuge in Albania, where many Jews had already been living. Muslim Albanians, who kept their honour code ‘Besa’, protected not only their Jewish fellow citizens and the refugees. ‘Besa’, as the highest code of ethical behaviour, enabled the Alabanian Muslims to safeguard the life of the Jews, who lived among them and who also came to them.
Tea and coffee will be available from 3.30 pm on February 28 in the FML Foyer. All Welcome.
