Department of Fine and Applied Art

Research in the Department

All members of academic staff in the Department are research active. The spectrum of research produced is wide ranging and multi-faceted and includes all three subjects: Art and Design History, Fine Art and Design. Please see the individual staff profiles for more detailed information.

The department is currently preparing as a unit of assessment for the REF2020 exercise and will submit practice-based/practice-led research outputs and academic written work. Due to our close links with communities, institutions and individuals nationally and internationally we will also present strong impact case studies. To raise awareness among our students about ongoing research, many members of staff practice research-led teaching. Visiting lecturers and professors from the UK and abroad contribute to the research culture of the department.
