Fine and Applied Art

Department of Fine and Applied Art

Overview

Fine and Applied Art is about change; it is about exploring visual possibilities. It is about endeavour, application and challenge in an increasingly context aware world. You will be able to study practical Visual Communication within a Fine Art and Design environment, underpinned throughout by theoretical and critical approach to the study of art history and curatorial practice.

All the staff are practising artists and have exhibited locally, nationally and internationally. They fully support the mission statement in their roles as active teachers and practitioners, utilising a supportive and well-appointed environment, enabling you to develop a visual and discerning understanding of design within a wide variety of specialist material areas relevant to individual learning, personal development and future development.

In the most recent National Student Survey, the Department was ranked amongst the top in terms of student satisfaction.

Research

The Department of Fine and Applied Art has a long-established portfolio of professional practice and research.

We offer students the opportunity to work across a suite of postgraduate taught programmes. The Arts play a significant and growing role in wealth creation and the regeneration of urban and rural environments. Arts organisations increasingly look to recruit postgraduates with a background in the arts. Liverpool Hope University has excellent links with cultural and community organisations in the city so is ideally placed to offer a postgraduate programme of this nature.

Partnerships

The Department works closely with external partners such as Tate Liverpool and others allowing Decorative Arts Curators and Design students to collaborate, culminating in a collection of artefacts for professional exhibition within the Craft and Design Gallery at The Walker Art Gallery and our own Cornerstone Gallery at the Creative Campus.
