New Photography Exhibition - 'Looking Your Best'

michael jacobson hardyLiverpool Hope is hosting a groundbreaking exhibition of photography looking at life behind bars and the ways in which young offenders interact with their environment.

In 2007, internationally renowned photographer Michael Jacobson-Hardy (pictured) agreed to come to a prison in North East England to undertake a collaborative photography project with Anita Wilson, and young offenders who were currently involved in an AHRC-funded study on how prisoners ‘make their mark’ as they move through the system. 

 

A largely self-taught photographer, Michael Jacobson-Hardy has been combining his interests in photography and social justice since 1987.  
 
 
The exhibition is in the Recess at Hope Park from Friday 7th May to Friday 16th July. Opening hours are 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, free admission.  For more information, please contact the Gateway Help Desk on 0151 291 3813.

Business School gets second PhD success

vishCongratulations go to Vish Maheshwari who successfully defended his PhD thesis to become the Business School’s second PhD success.

Vish’s PhD title “Interpreting Place Branding and its significance in Sustainable Development” used advanced CAQDAS (NVivo) techniques to explore the various facets of the place brand, how these interact with each other and then to determine their role in the sustainable development of a place.  

Vish has already delivered papers at several important International Marketing conferences, has published a Book Chapter co-authored with colleagues at the Hope Business School; a journal article published through the UNEECC, and currently has a publication in press (co-authored with his first and second supervisors, Dr Ian Vandewalle and Dr David Bamber). Vish has also received two prestigious ‘Doctoral Fellowships’ from Academy of Marketing Science (AMS) during his PhD studies.

Faith Events at Hope

Liverpool Hope plays host to two significant faith events in the next month, with a visit from Cardinal Walter Kasper, one of the Catholic Church's foremost theologians, and a major three day Catholic conference.

Cardinal Walter Kasper, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, will be at the Hope Park campus in Childwall on Monday 24th May 2010, to deliver a lecture entitled ‘Jews and Christians: Overcoming the Past to Construct a Shared Future of Peace’.

Cardinal Kasper is also President of the Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews, and, in 2003 wrote ‘Anti-semitism: A wound to be healed’ for the European Day of Jewish Culture.

The Northern Catholic Conference is taking place at the University's Hope Park campus from 11th-13th June and will see delegates of all ages coming to Hope for three days of talks, prayer and entertainment.

Professor Bill Jones in Demand for Election Insight

ImageHope's Adjunct Professor in Politics Bill Jones has been hitting front pages and television screens the world over in the past week, with newspapers calling upon his expertise to comment on the UK's General Election.

Publications such as the San Francisco Chronicle and New York Times, along with others from as far afield as Taiwan and Singapore, have carried Bill's comments on the political situation to readers around the globe.

Light Night at The Creative Campus

light nightLight Night is a one-night celebration of Liverpool culture, taking in 92 events in 55 venues across the city on the evening of Friday 14th May and Hope's Creative Campus is playing its part with a full evening of events...

Exhibition at the Capstone. In the run up to this year's Fine Art & Design Degree show, Hope is giving a sneak preview of some of the design work that will be included within the Exhibition in advance of the official preview on Friday 21st May.

The Liverpool Guitar Society, a community music organisation based at the Creative Campus, will be holding an open rehearsal performing a specially selected program of classical guitar music, compositions by local composers and some surprise Liverpool-themed arrangements!

Chains, a performance by Ronni Smith. Could we survive without today's supermarkets? What will happen to our communities when all the independent shops collapse?

Voices of Hope. This new choir, made up of Hope students and staff, perform three madrigals.

Chips, a performance by Bradley Navarro. Do you know what it takes to get food from its source to your mouth? Do you care?

Opus 5, performing Mozart's Divertimento No. 14.

Churchill, a performance by Kate Watkins. Who deserves the power of intellect and knowledge? What do intellect and knowledge look like?
