Success for Hope Film Maker |
|
|
|
Hope graduate Sara Evans is to have a documentary she made while at the University screened on Angelsey as part of the island's Royal Charter commemorations.
Sara, 21, made the film about the 1859 disaster, in which The Royal Charter, a 2,700 ton steam and sailing ship was lost off the coast of the island as part of the final project for her Business and Media degree earlier this year.
Sara's family has long-standing links to the Royal Charter, as her father was one of the divers to investigate the wreck in the nineteen eighties. She says 'It gave me more of an insight into the story. He had a shoe and a pocket watch and you knew whoever owned them had most likely died on the ship.'
'The Royal Charter: A Golden Tragedy' is also being screened as part of Hope's Cornerstone Festival, which runs from 18th November to 5th December. Full details can be found at: http:// www.hope.ac.uk/cornerstone/festival

During November 2009 around 80 secondary school pupils will be attending Mathematics Masterclasses at Liverpool Hope supported and delivered by Hope’s PGCE Secondary Mathematics staff and trainees. The pupils attending are drawn from Merseyside and beyond, including North Wales, Cheshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire. All pupils attend a total of five Saturday sessions from October to December, held here and at The University of Liverpool.
The involvement of Hope’s PGCE Secondary Mathematics staff and trainees in the Masterclasses has evolved and expanded over the years and is now an integral part of the programme and a distinctive feature of Hope’s PGCE course. The PGCE Mathematics trainees are currently preparing and rehearsing their Masterclass sessions to be delivered on Saturday 21st November.
The Masterclasses, originally set up with support from the Royal Institution of Great Britain, have run in Liverpool every year since 1991. They are organised by Mathematical Education on Merseyside (MEM) and now sponsored by Liverpool Mathematical Society (LivMS). MEM and LivMS offer a wide range of events and activities and are led by Mathematics tutors from the three universities in Liverpool and local teachers.
