cherie boothLiverpool Hope's three days of Summer Graduation Ceremonies came to an end on 15th July, with the award of a Doctorate of Humane Letters to Fr Michael Lapsley.

Fr Lapsley, who was born in New Zealand, lost both hands and an eye when, as an exiled chaplain to the African National Congress (ANC), he was victim of a letter bomb in 1990.

On Wednesday 14th July, the University had awarded two honourary doctorates, one to Cherie Booth QC (pictured, left) (Doctorate of Laws), the other to renowned philosopher and writer, Sir Anthony Kenny (Doctorate of Divinity). rajmohan_gandhi_146_x_220.jpg

The first Graduation Ceremony, on Tuesday 13th July, saw distinguished author, journalist and politician Professor Rajmohan Gandhi (right) receive a Doctorate of Letters. You can read Professor Gandhi's speech HERE.

Vice-Chancellor and Rector, Professor Gerald Pillay said:  “They are all exceptional individuals for different reasons.  They are people who are an inspiration to us all, whether it be in the field of education and research, engagement with public life or simply through living courageously in sometimes dangerous circumstances. In honouring them we bring honour to the University.”

Image galleries are now online, with pictures from Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday's events.
