Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Penny’s role as Dean of Sciences and Social Sciences involves leadership, pastoral care and strategic development across a range of academic subjects including Sport, Health, Psychology and Geography. She is particularly involved in aspects of the university progression and awards system and Chairs the University Assessment Boards. Penny has led the establishment of the Hope Research Institute of Applied Social Sciences at Bishop Heber College in Tamil Nadu, India and is passionate about India and the many links that the University has there. She has responsibility for the Liverpool Hope Service and Leadership Award and for the University’s Charitable arm, Global Hope, which aims to give students experience of service work both locally and internationally.

Background:

Penny did her first degree in Biochemistry at the University of Liverpool and her PhD on a SERC studentship in conjunction with Long Ashton Research Station near Bristol. She completed a number of years postdoctoral research on a Wellcome Trust fellowship focussing on lipid biochemistry of Leishmania, operating jointly between the Department of Biochemistry at Liverpool and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Penny is currently leading a project researching nutritional status and body fat ratios in fire service personnel.
