Liverpool Hope University offers a wide range of health and safety related training which each department can access. Regular safety training is encouraged and sessions can be planned and arranged with the Legal Services and Health and Safety Assistant.

Accident Investigation Training
Offering a broad understanding of different accident investigation techniques and processes whilst looking at the practical aspects of proactive accident prevention.
Asbestos Management Training
Training aimed at those responsible for managing buildings or supervising staff with building maintenance responsibilities. Providing an in depth knowledge of legal responsibilities, steps to achieve compliance, survey reports, management plans and establishing safe working procedures.
Asbestos Awareness Training
A legal requirement for anyone who may foreseeably encounter or disturb asbestos containing materials (ACM's) as part of their normal working duties. The course will include an introduction to asbestos, where it's found and why it's dangerous.
Principles of COSHH Training
An introduction to the principles of the control of hazardous substances and the associated regulations. The course outlines how hazardous substances can be identified and controlled to prevent harm being caused.
COSHH Awareness Training
Covering the basics of identifying, measuring and controlling exposure to harmful substances. The course will cover COSHH assessment and the Classification, Labelling and Packaging Regulations (CHIP) 2015. This is ideal refresher training course for staff who work with harmful substances on a regular basis.
Confined Spaces Training
Designed for workers who need to enter and work in a confined space, the course will include information about the accompanying regulations, safe working practices and emergency procedures.
Dealing with Conflict and De-escalation Training
Using various strategies and techniques based around communication skills to help prevent potentially dangerous situations from occurring or escalating.
Display Screen Equipment - Workstation Assessors Course
Designed to train staff to enable them to complete workstation assessments with a structured and holistic approach in line with the Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Regulations 2002.
Driving Safely at Work Training
A practical course designed to provide staff with information about safe driving techniques. Ideal for those staff that operate University owned vehicles or drive regularly on University business.
Minibus Driver Training
The Minibus driver training course is suitable for all experienced road users who may drive a minibus as part of their normal working activities. Covering specific knowledge and skills required for driving a larger vehicle to help build confidence and competence, this training will help drivers manage occupational road risks.
Emergency First Aid Training
Essential training for those staff wanting to receive training in how to provide emergency first aid treatment, suited for nominated first aiders in lower risk environments. The course will cover basic life saving first aid and treatment for common workplace injuries including bleeding, burns, choking and fainting. The course will also teach staff how to manage an emergency, communication skills and casualty care.
Fire Awareness Training
A legal requirement which all staff are required to attend regularly, fire awareness training will provide staff will a good understanding of how fires start and the principles of prevention they can follow to minimise the risk of fire in the workplace.
Fire Marshal Training
Informal training to be completed by all Fire Marshals on appointment, training includes an introduction to the University's Fire Marshal procedures and includes how to raise the alarm in an emergency and assisting during an emergency evacuation.
First Aid at Work Training
A thorough first aid course lasting three days, providing staff with in depth knowledge of how to deal with asthma related incidents; bone, muscle and joint injuries; burns and scalds, choking, eye injuries, head injuries, poisoning, resuscitation, spinal injuries, unconscious casualty's and how to deal with shock.
Health and Safety Awareness for Employees
General health and safety training provided to all new staff, introducing the University's main legal requirements with regards to Health and Safety and an overview of how the University strives to maintain a safe workplace.
Legionella Awareness Training
Providing staff with a good awareness of the risks posed by Legionnaires Disease, including identifying potential risk areas and how to implement the correct preventative techniques.
Manual Handling Training
This course aims to provide staff with basic knowledge of manual handling to help reduce musculoskeletal injuries. The course will cover health and safety law, the manual handling regulations and practical safe lifting techniques, ensuring it is relevant to all University staff.
Manual Handling Risk Assessment Training
Designed to give staff an understanding of the positive benefits of risk assessment and how to complete manual handling specific risk assessments, it will apply the theoretical and practical elements of the manual handling regulations.
Noise Awareness Training
Providing staff with an awareness of the issues relating to legislation, measurement and control of noise in their workplace.
Risk Assessment Course
This risk assessment course aims to dispel the myths associated with risk assessment documentation. Explaining in easy terms how to approach risk assessments with the aim to ensuring staff are competent to complete risk assessments relating to their own work area. Staff will be provided with a a comprehensive understanding of practical risk assessment techniques to help them to identify hazards and evaluate risks.
Safe Use of Ladders Training
Training to help staff assess and decide when it is appropriate to use ladders and stepladders and how to complete the required pre use checks. This training will also cover basic safe working practices for common working at height tasks.
Stress Awareness Training
A proactive approach that raises awareness of the symptoms of stress and provides staff with practical techniques to help develop coping strategies.
Working at Height Training
Practical training that can be adapted to suit the needs of individual departments, designed to give staff the practical knowledge required when planning, organising, supervising and carrying out any work at height.
IOSH Managing Safely Training (4 Days)
All staff with managerial responsibilities should have an understanding of their responsibilities when it comes to health and safety. The Institute of Occupational Health and Safety (IOSH) Managing Safely course applies good management principles to health and safety as part of a total management strategy. The course is structured over 4 days and includes an end of course examination and small project.
