Welcome to Liverpool Hope-Christ College(Bangalore) Institute of Business, Management & Leadership
The Hope-Bangalore Institute of Business, Management and Leadership was established in November 2005 with the aim of fostering joint collaborative research. The establishment of the Institute is a visible and symbolic sign of the collaborative partnership between Christ College and Liverpool Hope University. The Institute is committed to encouraging high quality research in the areas of business and management studies to ensure that teaching at both institutions remains research-informed. It aims in particular to:
- Work on individual and collaborative projects
- Foster collaborative research
- Support each others’ research and scholarship goals
- Seek best ways to publish and disseminate these research findings
To this end there are now four established areas; SME management and leadership, cross cultural influences on corporate social responsibility, professional leadership issues and marketing. Both partner institutions are committed to the venture with clear long term goals being established.
Current Research groups activities
CSR in the Pharmaceutical Industry
(Dr David Bamber, Ms Donna Harper, Dr Mathew, Mr S. Joythi).
In line with the other research groups a number of research themes have been identified and particular journals targeted. CSR will be considered from an Indian perspective, UK perspective and also a comparison between the UK and India. Progress of the team will be evaluated in 2008 by visiting research fellow Dr Pavel Castka (University of Canterbury, New Zealand; nominated expert for Corporate Social Responsibility to the International Standards Organization).
Leadership in the Professional Sector
(Dr John Brinkman, Dr Tara Sabapathy, Dr Kennedy A. Thomas).
This research group continues to make good progress towards its clear long term goals. The aim is to establish a research knowledge base that will provide the grounding for research projects beyond the initial 3 year period of the Institute. The targeted area is professional teams and the effect of leadership behaviour on employee occupational commitment in the UK and India. Research has initially focused on medical teams (14 medical teams in five hospitals) and transformational leadership behaviour. The team have now commenced with the next targeted professional group, the legal profession.
Leadership in Indian and UK SMEs
(Dr John Brinkman, Mr Jain Mathew, Mr Tomy K. Kallarackal)
The scope of this project has now expanded significantly (n=1000) and is focussed on how leadership in SMEs is practiced in various regions of India and the Merseyside region of the UK. This addresses the lack of research into leadership-in-practice in the SME sector and hence the project will make a contribution towards understanding of leadership in both Merseyside and Indian. The research is based on the three-dimensional taxonomy proposed by Yukl et al. (2002). Here three metacatogories (Task-Oriented Behaviours, Relations-Oriented Behaviours & Change-Oriented Behaviours) are categorised in line with the behaviours identified.
