The Centre for Millennialism Studies has produced several
single-authored monographs as well as collections of essays. For the
last four years, it has also co-organised a series of successful
colloquia and conferences with the University of Manchester that have
attracted a number of international speakers.
The mission of the Centre is as follows:
- To
study contemporary manifestations of millennialism/apocalypticism,
particularly the ‘afterlife’ of apocalyptic texts and ideas within
popular culture.
- To publish a series of edited
collections on the influence of apocalyptic ideas/images within popular
culture. The first three volumes in the series – on film, music and
literature – will be published in 2009.
- To create a
scholarly archive containing primary and secondary materials on
contemporary millennialism and apocalypticism in popular culture.
- To host visiting scholars, who will work in the archive and contribute papers as part of the Hope Theological Society programme.
- To organise a series of annual conferences and colloquia.
- To
act as a hub for scholars of contemporary millennialism through annual
conferences/colloquia, study days, and an electronic discussion forum.
