Information for all new Postgraduate Masters students

What to do before you Arrive

You will receive a welcome letter which will include details of your login credentials required to access University IT facilities.

Once you have received the letter, there are a number of things that you need to do before you arrive.  To do this you need to log in to your Hope IT account. To do this you should

  1. Visit
  2. Click on Student (you can find this at the top of the page)
  3. Click on MyHope (on the right hand side)
  4. Login using the details on your letter (when you have done this you will see a selection of options within MyHope) 


You now need to do the following things: 


Click on Student Record Management (SRM)

Complete the Registration Task in your ‘In Tray’


Tell us who will be paying your fees

When your registration task is complete, you should be automatically be diverted to answer questions about payment of your fees. If you have a confirmed postgraduate loan for 2017/18 you need to present your new student ID card at the finance office in order for us to confirm your attendance with the SLC and they will then be able to release the first instalment of your loan.


Access your personal Timetable (these will be available from 1 week before your course begins)

Within SRM click on the Timetable tab

Your default screen will be September which will allow you to see your first week(s)

You should change the settings so you can also see October which will represent your normal timetable


Access your Moodle (this will be available when you can access your timetable)

Click on the Moodle tab and the big ‘M’ (on the left hand side) and check your courses are listed

If you click on these you can see if your Tutors have already added any information (you will need to check this regularly)


Access your Hope email account

Access, click on Student/Staff Gateway and then the link to e-mail in the middle of the page. The password for this service will be the same but you should use the e-mail username shown on your letter.

Your tutors will use this to contact you so it is important that you access this regularly

Start Date for Postgraduate students

Induction week starts on Monday 2 October. 

Compulsory Induction evening Tuesday 3 October, please download our Post Graduate Induction Evening programme. 

Teaching starts week commencing Monday 9 October.

MA Social Work students (year 1) includes a ‘Fitness to Practice week’ 11-15 September, but otherwise proceeds as for other students.


If you are living in our Halls of Residence, the formal arrivals day is Saturday 23 September 2017.  Please look at our available accommodation for postgraduate students
