Standards for Agents

Education officials from the UK, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand have issued a joint statement of principles for ethical international student recruitment, following talks in London in Marsh 2012 hosted by the British Council.

The London Statement's seven principles are:

  1. Agents and consultants practice responsible business ethics
  2. Agents and consultants provide current, accurate and honest information in an ethical manner
  3. Agents and consultants develop transparent business relationships with students and providers through the use of written agreements
  4. Agents and consultants protect the interests of minors
  5. Agents and consultants provide current and up-to-date information that enables international students to make informed choices when selecting which agent or consultant to employ
  6. Agents and consultants act professionally
  7. Agents and consultants work with destination countries and providers to raise ethical standards and best practice

Agent Conference

Agent Conference 2013

The conference held in 2013 was attended by twelve agents from a range of different countries, including Pakistan, Armenia and Sri Lanka.

During the two days, delegates got first-hand experience of both of Liverpool Hope's campuses, along with time to get to know Liverpool as a city. The conference ended with a meeting with Vice Chancellor Professor Pillay.

Karen Whyte, Managing Director of Overseas Education Information Centre, said, "My colleague Pubudu Dassanayake and I last came to Hope four and half years ago and it's amazing to see the changes which have taken place on campus since then.

"We've had a fantastic time over the past three days and met so many friendly and helpful people. We always recommend Hope to our Sri Lankan students and we're going to continue doing so."
