Saradha Deerpaul, Mauritius, International MBAWednesday 12 March 2014
I did my degree in BEng (Hons) Mechatronics at the University of Mauritius and worked for two years as an Engineer.
I chose Liverpool Hope because Liverpool is a nice place where the people are very friendly and the living cost is very low compared to other places in UK.
The transition went smoothly as I already had experience of living and working abroad.
My accommodation was good and secure. Helpful Resident Tutors were a definite plus.
I have made a lot of friends from so many different countries and I will miss everyone when going back.
I have done a lot of volunteering while studying. I have volunteered at Sefton CVS; National Trust at The Hardman’s house; at the Festival Gardens, and for a local company, Othella LLP, as Administrative Assistant. I was also the class representative and worked as Resident Tutor at Aigburth.
My advice to anybody thinking about coming here to study is to be proactive and have a wider horizon. Learn how to live independently and in community with other students. Don’t limit yourselves to studies alone, discover the culture, the places and make the most of your talents.
Working and volunteering at the same time as studying has allowed me to be good with time management and budgeting, being proactive and working hard. These qualities are going to be very helpful in the work domain.
After graduation I intend to go back to Mauritius and work again, preferably in the Engineering field. Later on, I would like to pursue my studies and do a PhD.
