L2L - One day Leadership Workshops

As a member of the Hope student community you will have the chance of attending the Leadership Skills Workshops aimed at developing your personal qualities as a leader.

The Leadership Skills Workshops are intensive, fun, experiential and involve some of the best trainers and leadership coaches from around the world as well as students who have taken part in L2L's Internship Programme.

The Workshops are delivered by Learn to Lead (L2L) and have been designed to complement and enhance your university studies. The workshops will be covering 2 subjects:

1) Advanced Communication: Present Yourself!

The ability to deliver effective and congruent presentations is a key leadership quality.  Join Learn to Lead staff and peer mentors in a lively workshop aimed at developing your confidence and ability as a public speaker.  Shy people welcome!

2) The Leader as Coach

This day long workshop will develop your ability to ask questions as a way of enabling change in yourself and others.  It will also develop your understanding of the often non-verbal information that people give in everyday and problem situations.  This workshop is a must for anyone contemplating a career which involves working with a broad range of people.

Questions

Who is L2L for?

L2L is for any student wanting to develop his or her interpersonal and personal skills, who is interested in community service and would value having access to some of the most effective and successful leaders from the community at large. It is particularly likely to attract students who are contemplating careers as mangers, directors or partners in industry, the private, public or voluntary sectors.

  • Do I wish to use some of my time at University to develop my creativity, self-awareness and confidence?
  • Do I recognise that the more I learn about myself, the way I study, work and influence others the more effective I am in fulfilling my goals?
  • Do I believe that if I am to make a difference in the world the most effective place to start is with myself?
  • Do I wish to learn more about some of the global issues that affect our lives from the people who are making a difference?
  • Do I wish to engage in a learning activity that is fun, practical and promotes friendships amongst students and other members of the community?

What is L2L?

Learn to Lead (L2L) is an educational organisation that runs various leadership programmes for carefully selected students in university cities. Its aim is to improve the way society works by encouraging the potential and awareness of a new generation of leaders.

Who are the Faculty?

L2L's training is delivered by a faculty of talented and established leaders which includes L2L graduates who, whilst being relatively new to the workplace, have invaluable perspectives to share. In previous years the faculty has included management consultants, industrialists, and outstanding decision-makers within private, public and voluntary organisations. Most faculty members charge large fees for their time but commit to L2L at no cost out of their desire to work with and learn from a new generation of leaders.

Can I attend workshops on each of the two subjects?

Hope students are welcome to attend two workshops so that they cover both subjects - Advanced Communication: Present Yourself! & The Leader as Coach.

What is the cost?

L2L is run at no cost to all students. This is possible because of the generous support of Hope University, private companies, individuals and partner universities.

Where are the workshop being held?

All of the workshops will be held on the Hope Park Campus.

Is there a particular kind of student you are looking for?

L2L is for any student wanting to develop his or her interpersonal and personal skills, who is interested in community service and would value having access to some of the most effective and successful leaders from the community at large. There is no selection process for the one day Leadership Workshops. However all participants will need to register by email. There are a limited number of places on each of the workshops and these will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. If you would like to attend please send us an email us with the date(s) you are available to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

How will I benefit?

It is impossible to predict exactly how you will benefit from L2L. However, we can say with some certainty that former participants have found the experience enriching and worthwhile. Here are just some of the reasons why:

  • L2L helps you to acquire lifelong skills and strategies for learning and achieving your goals.
  • It enables you to train with practical experience in a way that will lead to benefiting others and the community at large.
  • Perhaps most important of all, L2L develops your awareness of your potential and responsibilities as a leader.

Although the value of L2L is beyond any financial measure, we estimate that a similar kind of experience elsewhere would cost you several thousands of pounds. For instance, some of our trainers routinely charge their commercial clients up to £4,000 a day in consultancy fees alone. Each year, L2L is on offer to a limited number of students from selected universities.

Wednesday 1st April                                                12-6pm Hope Park Campus (Buffet lunch provided)
