Trial access to 'ARTstor'

 ARTstor provides more than one million digital images in the arts, architecture, humanities, and sciences.  It promotes and shares collections from hundreds of museums, artists, artists' estates, photographers, scholars, special collections, and photo archives.  For a full list of collections included, click here .

Access to the trial is available from here on campus only, until 6th March 2012.  Select the 'ARTstor Digital Library Enter Here' link in the top right of the webpage.   Details of system requirements can be found here .

Trial access to 'Art Museum Image Gallery'

Access over 165,000 quality art images and related multimedia.  Includes coverage of a broad range of time and place, with entries from 3000 B.C. to the present day, and art from the cultures of Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas, including Native American and Meso-American peoples, as well as coverage of contemporary and modern artists.

Trial access to 'Times Literary Supplement Historical Archive'

This resource contains the complete run of the TLS from 1902-2006.  Thousands of book reviews - fiction and nonfiction, poetry, and covers every area of the visual and performing arts including film reviews, plays reviews and reviews of exhibitions, opera and theatre. It contains topical essays and criticism in the areas of science and medicine; art and architecture; history, music and religion; politics, economics and philosophy; exploration and sport.

'JISC Historic Books' replaces EEBO and ECCO

All the content previously in the databases 'Early English Books Online' and 'Eighteenth Century Collections Online', plus more, can now be found in a single new resource called 'JISC Historic Books'.  

JISC Historic Books provides access to over 300,000 books published before 1800 in England (or in English), and 65,000 19th century books. From the very first books published in English by William Caxton, to every book published in Great Britain and its colonies in the 18th century, and 19th century first editions, this resource provides valuablefulltext access to early works.

Trial access to 'Dictionary of Irish Biography'

The Dictionary of Irish Biography contains over 9,000 signed biographical articles which describe and assess the careers of subjects in all fields of endeavour, including politics, law, religion, literature, journalism, architecture, painting, music, the stage, science, medicine, engineering, entertainment and sport

Advanced searching in Naxos Music Library

Please be aware that Naxos are experiencing problems in the advanced search option of Naxos Music Library.  You can still use the basic searh option.  Noxos are working to resolve this issue but in the meantime if you have any difficulties finding what you need, please ask at the Subject Support Points (0151 291 2079 or 0151 291 2007).

Netlibrary becomes 'E-books on EBSCO'

The Netlibrary e-book collection  has now become E-books on EBSCO.   The content remains the same, now on the EBSCO search platform.  You can make a personal account by selecting 'Sign In' when in the database and following the instructions.  You can then add your favourite e-books to your folder, and attach notes to them.

Getting an error message in the online resources?

It's a good idea to clear your computers’ cookies, cache and saved preferences, as these have sometimes been the cause of error messages.

 To do this in Firefox; go to Tools and select ‘clear recent history’.  Tick everything and choose the timeframe to clear (e.g. a day), then click ‘clear now’.
In Internet Explorer; go to Tools, and select ‘Internet Options’.  Under Browsing History select ‘delete’.  Tick everything, then click ‘delete’.
In Chrome; click on the spanner icon  and select ‘Options’.  In the Under the Hood section tick everything and choose the timeframe to clear (e.g. a day), then click ‘clear browsing data’.

Close the browser and then re-enter the online resources.  If you are still having problems, call the Library on 0151 291 2079 (ground floor Subject Support Point) or 0151 291 2007 (first floor Subject Support Point).

Off-campus access

There are currently problems with access to the following resources off-campus, we are working with our suppliers to resolve these issues as soon as possible:

You can however get off campus access to JSTOR content by going direct to the dabatase (click on the database name when in the cross search).  We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
