Dr Blackburn gives keynote address to Musicological Society of Australia

Senior Lecturer in Music Dr Manuella Blackburn delivered the keynote address at the 2018 Musicological Society of Australia Conference.

Speaking at Edith Cowan University, Dr Blackburn talk focused on 'Mimesis, Sonic illusions and Micro-montage', discussing her compositional methodologies and techniques working in small sound use in the acousmatic music field.

She explored the magic and alchemy of the digital studio, and how this can facilitate in the creation of so called ‘optical illusions’ of the sound world, using sound recordings as a basis for departure. 

Dr Blackburn also presented a portrait concert of her music ‘Come Closer for cello and electronics, Javaari, Snap Happy, New Shruti and Cajon! for percussion and electronics’. In addition, she took part in an animated notation workshop with contemporary ensemble Decibel and was interviewed for the radio show - Difficult Listening (RTR FM92.1).
