Dr Stephen Kelly, Senior Lecturer in Modern History, recently completed an Erasmus Teaching Exchange programme at KU Leuven - the prestigious Catholic University of Leuven.

During his week-long stay, Dr Kelly delivered a series of academic lessons, including presentations on 'Margaret Thatcher's Britain, 1979-1990' and 'Revolutionary Ireland'.

Dr Kelly was also invited to deliver the annual guest lecture at Kortrijk, a satellite campus of KU Leuven, on the subject of 'Theresa May, the Irish border and Brexit'.

Talking about his time in Belgium, Dr Kelly said: “I would encourage fellow staff at Liverpool Hope to consider enrolling on an Erasmus teaching exchange programme.

“Not only did I acquire a knowledge of different teaching environments and make new academic connections, but I also had the opportunity to promote the learning and teaching ethos of Liverpool Hope University to a new audience outside of Great Britain.”

KU Leuven is one of Europe’s oldest universities and the oldest extant Catholic university in the world. Home to 50,000 students, it will celebrate its 600th anniversary in 2025.
