Liverpool Hope is launching a new Postgraduate Certificate at our Hope Park campus and University centre at St Marys’ College, Blackburn.

The National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination is a mandatory qualification for all Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCos).

Unlike some SENCo awards, the course is structured around face-to-face teaching and delivered on Saturdays, which provides a more personable style of teaching for those who work full-time.

The course will be run by Helen Ackers, Senior Professional Tutor in SEN at Liverpool Hope. She said: “Small groups will enable the course to be tailored to the needs of the students, while covering all aspects of the award. The course will enable SENCOs to enhance their practice, knowledge and understanding of a range of factors related to Special Educational Needs and Inclusion.

“Teaching has been developed to provide SENCos with a critical, theoretical knowledge and understanding. By developing their own critical thinking, they will be challenged to further develop their own Special Educational Needs practice. The course offers a practical, relevant programme designed by SENCos for SENCos.”

Lecturers with expertise in Special Educational Needs and relevant SENCO experience will deliver the course, while guest speakers who are current SENCos will be able to provide current insights.
