Independent music magazine The Wire has written a positive review of Senior Lecturer in Music Dr Manuella Blackburn’s recent album 'Petites étincelles' (empreintes DIGITALes).
Writing in Issue 409 (March 1, 2018), Julian Cowley stated: “On the basis of her own fascination with the intimate experience of everyday listening, Blackburn has created five pieces that blow away the sediment of routine association and let in strange light. Sonic details loom in close-up, vividly present yet out of character, like objects in a surrealist animation.”
He commends the musical compositions and way in which the album ‘strips away familiarity’ to create a ‘secret life within such sounds’.
