Only Fools and Horses star turns on Christmas lights

christmas lights twinkling around campus

The University was excited to welcome Only Fools and Horses actor Paul Barber to a special festive Open Day, where he turned on Liverpool Hope’s Christmas lights.

Students, staff and members of the public gathered to see the acting legend push the big red button in front of the New Gate arch at Hope Park.

Barber, who also starred in the cult British comedy film The Fully Monty, was in great spirits as he helped the Hope community and Open Day guests get in the festive spirit.

Each year, the University marks the start of the Christmas season by hosting an official Christmas lights switch on, featuring market stalls, a giant inflatable snow globe, and seasonal food and drinks.

Previous years have seen Googlebox stars June and Leon, and The Great British Bake Off’s Flo, switch on the Christmas lights.

This year’s event was extra special as it coincided with the University’s final Open Day of 2018. Prospective students and their family and friends were invited to explore the campus and find out more about Liverpool Hope, before witnessing the big switch on.
