The British Psychological Society’s (BPS) Developmental Psychology Section has awarded Dr Tom Gallagher-Mitchell a grant for research.

Dr Gallagher-Mitchell will spend two weeks at Purdue University as a Visiting Scholar at the Purdue Early Achievement Research Lab, after receiving an International Collaboration Scheme Award.

The Psychology Lecturer’s visit will focus on the importance of the home numeracy environment in developing later mathematics skills and the interactions between parents and children.

Organised in collaboration with Associate Professor David Purpura, the project will also develop new measures of early mathematical reasoning for cross-cultural research.

The BPS Developmental Section Committee allocated a portion of Section funds each year to support an International Collaborations scheme, which enhances the development of research links between UK developmental psychologists and colleagues from other countries.
