Voluntary organisation Theatre in Prisons and Probation (TIPP) hosted a cross disciplinary event for students from the departments of Social Work, Care and Justice, and Dance, Drama and Performance Studies.

Funded by a faculty innovation award, students attended workshops throughout the day, and an evening event chaired by TIPP’s Director Simon Ruding.

There was a panel discussion and networking event with speakers from a range of criminal justice, voluntary organisations, and specialist arts and cultural organisations.

The networking part of the event also gave them the chance to talk more informally with the panellists about their work, build up links and improve employability prospects.

Lecturer in Social Work Dr Lucy Hanson said: “The event proved to be very valuable to social work students. TiPP and the panel of experts from the range of services, clearly showed how drama and related arts has a very powerful effect in the lives of those who had often experienced very difficult or traumatic events, helping them to see a way forward in a new way."
