Hope Celebrates St Cecilia’s Day with Sons of Bach
Tuesday 22nd November was the feast day of St Cecilia, patron saint of musicians, and the University marked the day with a concert of music by three sons of Johann Sebastian Bach: Wilhelm Friedemann, his eldest, Carl Philip Emmanuel, his fifth child and Johann Christian, his eleventh and youngest son. Johann Christian was a pupil of Carl Philip Emmanuel, who in turn had studied under Wilhelm Friedemann.
The performance included JC Bach's Organ Concerto in B flat and CPE Bach's Magnificat in D, and featured performances by the University Chamber Choir and the Cornerstone Orchestra.
The concert was part of this year’s Cornerstone Festival which continues until Sunday 3rd December. Please visit http://www.hope.ac.uk/cornerstonefestival for more information.
