Dr Laura Hamer joins panel on renowned composer Paul DukasTuesday 15 September 2015
Head of Music Dr Laura Hamer joined colleagues from Kingston University, the Université libre de Bruxelles and Maynooth University for a panel dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of composer Paul Dukas. Perhaps best known as the composer of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Dukas was a prolific French composer, critic and teacher.
Held at the Annual Conference of the Royal Musical Association, the panel examined Dukas’ contribution to the development of musical modernism in France during the interwar period, and his crucial role in mentoring the younger generation.
Dr Hamer’s contribution specifically considered Dukas leading female students Elsa Barraine, Claude Arrieu and Yvonne Desportes at the Paris Conservatoire.
