Dr Sonja Tiernan’s new article commended

Sonja Tiernan Friday 11 November 2016

A new volume A century of Progress? Irish Women Reflect includes an essay by Acting Head of the Department of History & Politics Dr Sonja Tiernan.

Sonja's article contributes to a body of writings by leading Irish academics and activists reflecting on the position of women in Irish society over the last century, and what actions the state has taken to shape this position.

The volume is being applauded as ground-breaking and was officially launched by the President of Ireland’s wife Mrs Sabina Higgins.

Mrs Higgins commended Dr Tiernan's essay 'The Revolt of the Sisters?' and quoted from it extensively.

The launch address at the trade union headquarters, Liberty Hall Dublin, can be seen here

A century of Progress? Irish Women Reflect, is edited by Alan Hayes and Maire Meagher, and published by Syracuse University Press, 2016.
