Dr Stephen Kelly presented with two Cambridge University research awardsMonday 15 February 2016
Dr Stephen Kelly, Lecturer in Modern History, has been presented with two research awards by Cambridge University, which will allow him access to Margaret Thatcher’s personal papers.
Cambridge University's Churchill College has awarded Dr Kelly the Archives By-Fellowship and the John Antcliffe Memorial Fund Grant, for 2016-2017.
The by-fellowship was awarded in support of Dr Kelly's new research related to Margaret Thatcher and British-Irish relations. His project is called The Iron Lady and Ireland: Margaret Thatcher, Anglo-Irish relations and the Northern Ireland question, 1979-1990.
The awarding of the by-fellowship will permit Dr Kelly to reside at Churchill College during Lent-Term, 2017.
During his stay, Dr Kelly will work from the Churchill Archives Centre, Churchill College, where Margaret Thatcher’s personal papers are held. The awarding of the John Antcliffe Memorial Fund Grant will go towards Dr Kelly's living costs during his residency.
The by-fellowship entitles Dr Kelly to make use of all the College facilities and makes him a member of the Senior Common Room.
He will also take part in the activities of the College, including delivering a series of papers related to his research on Thatcher.
