Father Jimmy Collins RIPMonday 30 April 2012
It is with great sadness that Liverpool Hope hears of the death of our friend Canon James Collins. Father Jimmy, as he is known, sadly passed away on Thursday, aged 94.
Father Jimmy discovered his priestly vocation at a young age and entered minor seminary aged 11. He has been a prominent local figure since his ordination in 1942, fighting on behalf of the poor and dispossessed. More recently he became well known for his healing ministry.
The much loved Liverpool priest and campaigner was honoured by Liverpool Hope earlier this year with the award of an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity. The number of friends, colleagues and members of the church that attended his honorary degree ceremony is testament to his popularity and the impact he had on our community. He will be greatly missed by many people.
