Graduation: Sun shines on Class of 2016Friday 22 July 2016
The sun was shining in Liverpool as the Class of 2016 celebrated the culmination of all their hard work, at three special Graduation ceremonies.
Liverpool Anglican Cathedral hosted this year’s summer Graduations, which saw Honorary Degrees awarded to Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside Dame Lorna Muirhead and the University of Malta’s Head of Geography Professor John Schembri.
University Vice-Chancellor and Rector Professor Gerald Pillay congratulated the graduates on their achievements and highlighted several particularly inspirational individuals.
Among them was International student David Seow, who was awarded the prize for Best Performing Student in Single Honours Media and Communication.
Talking about his time at Hope, David said: “Acceptance onto the Media and Communications course felt like a dream come true, and I relished the independence and freedom university offered. However being far away from home was difficult, and led to increasing anxiety and feelings of isolation.
“During this time, the Student Development and Well-Being Team were invaluable, as well as finding a community I felt at home with at Liverpool One Church. Over the next two years, I went from strength to strength. Through my degree I’ve gained confidence in myself, grown as an individual, and increased my skills as a photographer. At the end of my course I was proud to present my original research into the British news coverage of the Syrian refugee crisis.”
