Hope alumnus Sir Chris Stone to deliver Distinguished Lecture

Sir Chris Stone Monday 13 March 2017

Sir Chris Stone, chief education officer for GEMS’ MENASA arm (Middle East, North Africa and South Asia), will return to Hope to present a public lecture on ‘Leadership at all levels'.

The Liverpool Hope University Alumnus will discuss his work with GEMS and aim to provide people with a better understanding of their leadership potential and impact on others.

GEMS Education is a multinational education foundation with schools situated around the world.

Before joining GEMS, Sir Chris worked as chief executive of The Arthur Terry Learning Partnership, and was knighted for his services to education in 2013. He was a regular advisor to former Prime Minister David Cameron before taking on the role of helping to shape the future of schools across the United Arab Emirates.

Outlining the lecture, Sir Chris said: “People can do the most incredible things. Einstein said that leadership is ‘knowing what to do when you didn’t know what to do’. We are all capable of achieving so much... and even then so much more. It is our responsibility to put more back into society than we take out. We are all privileged in that we have (certainly the audience members) received an education, we have food in our stomachs and fridges, and access to free medical provision. We all probably have a bank account (granted some with more in it than others). We are indeed fortunate.”

All are welcome to the free lecture, which will be held on Wednesday 17th May in EDEN Lecture Theatre, Liverpool Hope University, Hope Park, Liverpool, L16 9JD.

Refreshments will be served from 5pm, with the lecture starting at 5.30pm.
