Hope graduate scoops Young Storyteller of the Year awardMonday 21 November 2016
The Best Newcomer award was presented to Liverpool Hope University graduate Georgia Lee Bowers at the Young Storyteller of the Year competition.
Georgia, who graduated in 2016, first began to explore contemporary oral storytelling in the final year of her Drama degree.
At Young Storyteller of the Year, she gave an atmospheric solo performance inspired by the ancient tale of Eurydice and Orpheus, full of human sympathy and playful poetic rhythms, which gripped listeners of all ages.
Dr Stephe Harrop, who leads the Drama department's Storytelling pathway, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for a young performer, who only started to explore storytelling a year ago.
“Georgia has a generous presence and a knack for verbal poetry, which makes her stories an absolute joy to listen to. We all wish her the very best of luck as she continues to develop as a performing artist.”
The awards aim to raise the profile of young storytellers and provide a platform for them, as well as demonstrating potential career paths.
