Indian culinary tour awarded to Catering ManagerTuesday 3 October 2017
A taste of India will be coming to Hope, as one of the University’s catering team goes on a gastronomic research tour of the country’s northern region.
Retail Catering Operations Manager Adam Settle has been selected to go on a fully funded trip with The University Caterers Organisation (TUCO), after explaining in 500 words why he would be the best candidate for the opportunity.
The competition was open to all national TUCO members with two full bursary places to be won. It was aimed at universities that have a significant intake of students from India and neighbouring countries, and who wish to develop the student experience at their university.
Visiting Delhi, Agra, Varanasi (and the Holy River Ganges) and Jaipur, the tour will look at some of the food traditions in northern India and includes visits to Indian Universities in three cities, food markets, Indian family cooking, street food and explores the way that Indian culture influences food.
Adam said: “I love Indian food and I’m looking forward to seeing how authentic dishes are cooked and taste.
“As a lot of Indian cuisine is vegetarian, I am interested to see how we might develop the range of vegetarian dishes back at Hope. I am also keen to see try out their street food and to see how we can expand our already popular station on the Food Court.
“I am probably most excited to visit the Indian family's home and get involved in traditional home cooking, although hi tea at Taj Rambagh Palace and elephant riding are close runners up!
Head of Catering and Conferences Gary Pace added: “We are all really proud of Adam for his success and look forward to seeing how this influences his input into food service going forward.”
