In the fast lane: F1 team sponsored by Faculty of ScienceFriday 8 April 2016
An all-girls Formula 1(F1) team are hoping to be in poll position after receiving sponsorship from Liverpool Hope University’s Faculty of Science.
Aged between 14 and 15, the Upton Hall pupils are finalists in the F1 in Schools Nationals to be held at Silverstone Circuit, Northamptonshire on Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st April.
Named Blink of an Eye, the team of six progressed from the North West Regionals with the Judges’ Discretionary Award and appealed to the Faculty of Science for support.
Team member Eve Wilde explained how the University is a Gold Sponsor, having helped Blink of an Eye to purchase outfits, merchandise and car materials.
She said: “I wanted to find a local sponsor and a representative from Hope visits our school on PHSE days, so I thought of the University.
“All of our sponsors helped us in various ways, but Hope was a fundamental financial sponsor and we have used the donation to source materials that the team will be judged on.”
F1 in Schools is a global organisation that aims to inspire young people to get involved in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.
Teams are tasked with designing and 3D-printing a small scale F1 car, developing a brand identity, presenting to a judging panel, designing a manufacturing and enterprising portfolio, creating a pit display and marketing via social media.
