Kingdom of Bhutan welcomes Liverpool Hope

Wendy Bhutan Wednesday 15 November 2017

Representatives from Liverpool Hope University visited the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan to attend a conference on Gross National Happiness (GNH).

Associate Dean (International) and Head of Residential Life Dr Wendy Bignold was welcomed as a guest of the Centre for Bhutanese Studies.

GNH is the Government's strategy for development in Bhutan and its guiding principles are applied to all aspects of life, including education, healthcare, business and employment, religion and housing. By measuring quality of life by GNH, the Government aims to strike a balance between material and mental well-being.

Dr Bignold said: “We met with the Vice Chancellor of the University of Bhutan and the Head of the Civil Service, to discuss opportunities for Bhutanese students to study at Liverpool Hope and at the American Consortium for Global Education institutions.

“Bhutan is one of the world's least known countries, so we were very fortunate to go and promote the universities.”

Dr Bignold also met with the Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay, who is leader of the People’s Democratic Party.
