Leon and June light up Hope

Leon and June lights Friday 2 December 2016

Gogglebox favourites Leon and June Bernicoff received a warm welcome from students and staff when they switched on the university’s Christmas lights.

The much-loved pair switched on the lights outside the university's Gateway Building entrance before posing for selfies. There was also music provided by Wirral Grammar School for Girls’ swing band and student band The Leftbacks.

Enterprising students ran pop up market stalls, Christmas refreshments were available, and people could have their photo taken in a giant snow globe.

The event was free and open to the local community.

Leon and June answered questions from students, and gave their tips for a long and happy marriage.

Liverpool Hope University’s Christmas lights are becoming a tradition for the university, helping prepare students and staff for the festive season.

The university also runs an annual #deckthehalls Christmas decoration competition for students and staff.

Dr Penny Haughan, Dean of Students at Liverpool Hope University said: “Our Christmas lights switch on is becoming a tradition, and we enjoyed welcoming Leon and June and the local community. Leon and June are a firm favourite with our students and staff alike!”
