Liverpool Hope students win at Young Enterprise awardsTuesday 1 March 2016
Liverpool Hope business students won the award for Best Trade Stand at the Young Enterprise Awards regional final while Business Gateway Manager Carol Buckman was presented with the award for North West Enterprise Ambassador 2015/16.
The students competed against universities across the region. They were all challenged to come up with a business idea and present it to industry leaders at a trade fair at Liverpool Hope’s Great Hall.
Liverpool Hope students came up with coffee business Café Unica and retro sweet company From a Sweeter Time.
The trade stand prize, won by the Café Unica stand, was awarded by judges from John Lewis in Manchester.
Carol Buckman was also presented with a North West Enterprise Ambassador 2015/16 award by Young Enterprise Chief Operating Officer Sharon Davies and was given a standing ovation by Liverpool Hope students.
Carol said: “While one group won the trade stand prize, both groups did incredibly well and were an absolute credit to the University. We also had tremendous support from three business mentors: Ms Lin Boyd (New Business Development Club and Switch on to Business) and Mr Gareth Matthews (MLP Law) for Cafe Unica and Mr Phil McWilliam (Star Pubs, part of the Heineken Group) for From a Sweeter Time. It was a wonderful surprise to win the Ambassador award and to receive a standing ovation from our lovely students!"
